Like many institutions of higher education, Furman University faced significant challenges in managing its performance and strategic planning processes. They were having trouble streamlining their one-on-one meetings, OKR tracking, and performance reviews.
We interviewed Ian Brown, Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness, who shared how Teamflect has transformed their department's operations and strategic execution.

"Teamflect does it all. And it takes care of what we need it to do. It’s been a great tool for our organization."
Ian Brown - Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness
Ian discovered Teamflect while searching for solutions to track OKRs and improve one-on-one meetings. "I was looking for ways that we could track our OKRs. I was also looking for a way to solve the conundrum of a one-on-one," Ian explains.
The seamless integration with Microsoft Teams and the free trial sealed the deal: "The 10 free licenses did it for me. It gave me enough 'meat' to see that not only could this tool work, but this can have a great impact on our organization."
"Teamflect has propelled our department to stand out within our division of the institution. We've accomplished more than 50% of our strategic plan within one year. That's pretty crazy. We were able to facilitate that because we were using a tool like Teamflect."
This remarkable achievement didn't just happen overnight. Teamflect quickly became a key aspect of the department's strategic operations, with the team using multiple modules within the platform to drive organizational alignment.
"We use most of the modules within Teamflect. The biggest things that we use Teamflect for is tracking and executing our strategic plan," Ian shared.
"It's the combined connectedness that works for me. The one-on-ones that pull up not only the conversation and the agenda items, but also their tasks and OKR progress all within one place."
From performance reviews and strategic goals to day-to-day to-do items and meeting agendas, Ian takes complete advantage of the software:
"On a more day-to-day basis, we're using the one-on-one agenda tool very heavily so that we can have a collaborative one-on-one meeting and track our agenda items without much work. We're also using the task within meetings or the task module itself to make sure we're tracking our action items to completion. As a manager, I can set that task or they can set that task, and then I can offload that off my brain."
"Customer support is fantastic! If I have a question, I get a response in a timely manner alongside the assistance I need."
One of the highlights of Furman University's experience with Teamflect has been the exceptional customer support. Beyond resolving issues, Ian appreciated Teamflect's collaborative approach to product improvement. Teamflect users can not only give feedback on existing features, but upcoming items on our roadmap and Furman University has taken advantage of this greatly.
"Teamflect solved a lot of the things that we needed it to solve. It's been a phenomenal tool."
Furman University's partnership with Teamflect exemplifies how a tailored, user-friendly performance management tool can drive meaningful change within an organization. By integrating essential processes and fostering collaboration, Teamflect has empowered the department to focus on what truly matters: developing talent and achieving strategic goals.
Achieving success of this caliber doesn't just happen when a department implements Teamflect; It also needs a capable leader like Ian to take the tool and run with it. The results speak for themselves: a department that has not only met but exceeded its strategic objectives, setting a new standard for excellence within the institution.
