Pure Environmental is a hazardous waste and resource recovery company operating across Australia. Founded in June 2022, Pure united multiple established operations under one umbrella brand and looked forward.
The company nurtures a strong team consisting of chemists, operators, and administrators, and is guided by six core values: innovation, diversity, pride, curiosity, valuing people, and safety.
For leadership, these values aren’t just statements on a wall; they drive the way the business runs.
As a young but fast-growing organization, Pure Environmental needed more than a static document for its one-year and three-year strategic plans. They initially used Viva Goals since they were already in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
Microsoft’s announcement to discontinue Viva Goals by the end of 2025 was a shock to them.
They looked for the best Viva Goals replacement and found something great in Teamflect.
When the leadership team began formalizing its strategic plans, they chose Microsoft Viva Goals to manage its strategic goals. Initially, it seemed like a step up from manual tracking.

“Viva Goals was better than an Excel spreadsheet, but it still kind of sat to the side of the organization.”
Rachel Irvine-Marshall – Executive General Manager – Services
While Viva Goals handled the basics, the Pure team quickly saw limitations:
“Viva Goals wasn’t overly user friendly… It did what we needed, but it didn’t really link easily to other organizational practices.”
Then, just as they were embedding Viva Goals into the business, Microsoft announced it would be discontinued.
“When Viva Goals was discontinued, we felt a bit lost about what to do next.”
The pressure was on to find a replacement that not only matched Viva Goals’ capabilities but also solved its shortcomings, all without disrupting strategy execution.
“We went on Google and searched ‘best platforms to replace Viva Goals’. That’s how we found Teamflect.”
The team shortlisted five platforms and demoed three. Their selection criteria was clear:
Teamflect stood out immediately.
“The process was straightforward. We didn’t even need support. We just followed the instructions, uploaded our Viva Goals data, and it worked. It was really intuitive.”
In January, the team exported their data from Viva Goals, uploaded it into Teamflect, and began implementation. Using Teamflect’s Viva Goals migration template, they completed the migration themselves, no formal onboarding or lengthy process required.
They set up an ambitious timeline to have Teamflect up and running during their strategy meeting in March and they accomplished it within their set timeline.
They went on to move all professional development plans (PDPs) and check-ins into Teamflect. Now, every month, managers and employees discuss strategic delivery alongside individual performance.
“Teamflect was exactly what we needed to embed our strategy. Now, in our monthly PDPs with managers, we’re consistently talking about what’s in Teamflect and actively discussing the delivery of strategy every month.”
Teamflect’s integration with Microsoft Apps meant their goals and initiatives weren’t siloed. Instead, they became a part of meetings, PDPs, and ongoing performance conversations.
“Teamflect is really well integrated into our existing processes. We can bring goals directly into meetings, link them to agenda items, and have strategy conversations seamlessly inside Teams.”
The change was noticeable immediately and Teamflect was adopted companywide within their set timeline.
“Everyone was like, wow, this is so user friendly.”
Pure Environmental customized Teamflect’s backend to match their goal setting and strategy terminology, making the system feel like their own.
“We love that we can adapt the terminology in the backend to match our own strategy language. It lets us align the platform completely with how we work.”
Teamflect isn’t a static product. It is regularly updated with new features and quality of life improvements to make sure users have the best performance management experience possible. This didn’t go unnoticed by Pure Environmental.
“It’s refreshing to see how much development is constantly happening in Teamflect. We’ve even submitted ideas, and it’s great to see improvements like updated filtering roll out so quickly. Compared to other platforms where nothing changes until a major review, Teamflect is always evolving.”
Pure Environmental plans to expand their use of Teamflect beyond Goals, Tasks, and Reviews, exploring modules like Recognitions to align with their values and drive engagement. They’re also excited about upcoming features such as Teamflect’s AI Agent to further streamline performance and strategy management.
“It’s been easy and very user friendly. But at the same time, it is transformative for us as an organization in the way that we can manage strategy.”
Pure Environmental's migration shows how small organizations switching tools can hit the ground running within weeks.

How did you guys discover Teamflect?
We originally used Viva Goals. We brought it on, set up our strategy, and it wasn't quite doing exactly what we wanted — but we were fairly committed to the Microsoft ecosystem and using Microsoft products. We basically saw the news come out that Microsoft was going to be discontinuing the product. And we felt like we'd been slapped in the head, because we had literally just put our strategy in and were just teaching the business how to use Viva Goals.
00:00:39
We shortlisted five different products, organized demos, narrowed it down to two for our CEO to review, and we chose Teamflect. Literally, we searched "best platforms to replace Viva Goals" — that's how we found you.
How was the implementation process for Teamflect?
It was good. We didn't use any of your support team. We got the instructions on how to upload the data we pulled out of Viva Goals, mapped it into your upload template, uploaded it, and then figured it out for ourselves. It was really user friendly.
00:01:33
What are you using Teamflect for?
We set ourselves a very ambitious timeline to have Teamflect up and running with our strategy in it before our annual strategy meeting — which we were able to achieve, which was awesome. We exported the data, imported it into Teamflect, and organized it so we could use it in that forum. We started with goals, and since then we've also brought on reviews. So we're currently using tasks, goals, and reviews.

We went into the strategy meeting and everyone was like, "Wow, this is so much more user friendly." We discovered that we could change the terminology in the back end, which we love. So we've used our own language — we actually have a three-year strategy, one-year goals, and initiatives, rather than the preset terminology. We've set our own timeframes to match our strategy. It's been great in that we've been able to really link it in with our
00:02:25
organizational language. We ran a couple of the review templates, saw how the goals carry over, and thought, this is what we need to embed strategy. Now what it means is we go into personal development plan meetings once a month with your direct manager, and you're talking about what's in Teamflect. So we're actually talking about delivery of strategy monthly, as well as personal development through the personal development goals. We go into meetings across a cadence of
00:02:55
different meeting types. If we're in a management review meeting, we go in and pull up the goals related to each agenda item through those meetings using the Teams groups and labels. So it's just really well integrated into our existing processes as a result.
How has Teamflect helped your organization in terms of its growth journey?
Coming to the end of the financial year and into the new one, it's really focused us on what we need to deliver.
00:03:22
How would you describe customer service and support at Teamflect?
I've had no issues. When I have had to reach out, it's been no challenge at all. What I will say is that as a platform, it's actually been really refreshing to see the amount of development that happens. I'm always seeing emails come through with what the developers are working on, and we've
00:03:47
been able to submit a few suggestions of our own as well. Compared to a lot of IT platforms where you get what you've got until a big development review, and they're only really fixing bugs in the interim, it's been really refreshing to notice things like, "Oh, the filtering's changed — and I like how that works."
00:04:10
If you had to summarize your entire experience with Teamflect in just a couple of sentences, how would you go about it?
It's been easy and very user friendly, but at the same time it has been transformative for us as an organization in the way we can manage strategy.
